Lab Assignment #18

Facebook
As a social network, its often times hard to set perimeters to guard users information. Facebook does have "principals" in its Rights and Responsibilities section available for us to see. The Rights and Responsibilities section says that we have complete ownership of all the information that we disclose. As owners of our information we decide whether we want our information to be disclosed. Or information is under the intellectual property rights. Anything that we have with an ip address can be used by facebook. However, there is the option to disclose the information. You can make your information, photos and endorsements only available to certain to certain people if you choose. My profile is only available openly to my friends that I have accepted. I have custom settings.

Chase
Chase has options on how your information is used and disclosed. There are 3 choices. The first way to make sure your personal information is not disclosed is Third-party Sharing. In third party sharing, you may tell Chase what information to not to share about you with non-financial companies outside of our family of companies. Even if you do tell Chase not to share, they may do so as required or permitted by law. The second choice is affiliate sharing, where you tell us not to share the following information about you within our family of companies Choice number is Affiliate marketing. You may tell Chase to limit our family of companies, such as our credit card, and securities affiliates, from marketing their products and services to you if you do not have an account or business relationship with them. I choose the first option for my account, because i know that most times, my information is not disclosed.

Howdy
Texas A&M has a Texas Public Information Act in effect in managing everyone's information in Howdy. Howdy is a central system for all TAMU faculty and staff. It holds their e-mails, records, and personal information. Howdy & TAMU don't own our information, therefor we dont have to make sure about it disclosing our information to the public. I am comfortable with the default settings.
Google Blooger

Twitter

Another social website, Twitter doesn't own the information you use, but you do have the option to keep some parts of information private. They use your information only for their servers to match up with ads and sponsers of Twitter, but they never disclose it, themselves to the public. You control that. My settings for my twitter account are kept at default.

Yahoo! Mail

Yahoo! Mail is apart of Yahoo. The information you provide can be shared if you choose for it to be. Your information isnt used publicly for Yahoo's advancement, but for yours. They take you information and cater to what your preferences are. Im okay with this and have allowed my account to stay with the default settings.

Lab Assignment #15

E-Commerce Flower Shop

In this day and age, shopping is dynamic activity for people. There are online auctions, online-only stores, brick and mortar stores with online shopping and the declining, brick and mortar-only shop. As a brick and mortar-only shop there is a huge market of online sales that are lacking within this company. To expand this company’s profits, it is highly suggested that an e-commerce application is adopted. Below are 3 different companies that are I highly recommend.
Zen Cart

Zen Cart is an open source e-commerce shopping program. Built on a foundation of Ecommerce code, it provides an easy-to-setup and run online store. Zen-Cart 2.0, a free program has many great qualities, and is a small business dream, in my opinion. Zen-Cart allows you to easily manage your products that are being made available on-line. With Zen-Cart allows you to sort your products into categories, manage your stock levels, give attributes to the items that you have for sale. You can also write reviews, create specials, and allow items to be bought in bulk. Having items available online is great but the way it is presented is equally as important. People associate appearance with credibility. Zen-Cart provides attractive free templates, and even more attractive paid templates. Info about your company can simply be put into these templates and updated with a few clicks of the mouse. If you have any problems, there is a downfall. There is no help, but there is a forum that provides a pretty thorough support.

Magento

Magento is an e-commerce web application. This software provides online merchants with flexibility and control over the look, content and functionality of their e-commerce store. Magento's has a search engine optimization and catalog-management tools to give merchants the power to create a web-site that are tailored to their business needs. I think that this biggest advantages for Magneto is the option to control more than website. Zen Cart doesn't provide that option. Not really necessary for us because this is one company, but great if your looking to expand nationally, with different options in different regions. Magneto provides clean and professional web layouts that appear to be created by a 3rd party. They look complicated to set up, but there are pretty simple to create. You just follow the templates and fill them in. This is a more advanced option available for businesses with multiple ecommerce stores. Because of this feature, Magneto is a little slower.
As i said before this is best if your company has multiple companies you want to control.

osCommerce is the last eCommerce program that Ill recommend to you. This is an online store management system that offers a wide range of customizable features that can be done in a short amount of time. osCommerce provides a catalog frontend and an administrative tool backend which can be easily installed and configured over a web-based installation process. The software is free to download and takes up only 2.2MB of computer space. osCommerce has a lot to offer. osCommerece is capable of automatic web-based installation, unlimited number of products and categories, automatic set-up of eCommerce payment systems, support for dynamic images, printable invoices and packing lists, temporary and permanent shopping carts, and real time shipping quote integration with UPS, USPS, FedEx, etcetera.

To always ensure that your website is benefiting your business you want to apply a business analytics program to your website. ClickTale is a business analytic program that allows you to see tendencies of you consumers that visit your page. Clicktale gives recommendations on how to increase revenues and how the site can be improved. ClickTale provides different services for different prices. Prices range from $0 to about $800 dollars. This business analytics program is highly recommended to ensure a beneficial webos commerce program.

Lab Assignment #14

1. Successfully downloaded to Ipod Touch and Iphone.

2. Functions of Skype include: searching names and adding new contacts; there is a directory; you can shop for subscriptions, skype credits, or accessories that comply with the Skype program; you can call any phone number including cell phones, landlines, and other skype users. You are able to create a profile with a picture of yourself and personal information. You can send files and contacts; when video chatting, you can choose to have the streaming video in a small screen setting, full screen setting, or as a separate window; you can share your screen. You Skype allows you to video chat with the person you are trying to call.

*When calling or messaging from a computer to a cell phone there is a time lag for the information or video. And on cell phones you are unable to video chat with the person you are calling.

*There is no real difference between desktop PCs and laptops except for the hardware. A lot of laptops now have a built in camera, some still do not, but many do. For the majority desktop PCs you have to purchase a camera.

*When using Skype on the Ipod touch, a user is limited because there is no camera/video applications and there is no built in microphone. A user must buy these external pieces in order to use Skype as a calling device. Messaging is the only main use of Skype on an Ipod touch without purchasing extra equipment.

3. Each person of our group has a skype account, has used skype at some point in time, and would use it in the future. From computer to computer the software seemed to work most efficiently. We most likely would not use Skype from our phones because we cannot see the person, there is a time lag in transferring information, and if the phone was to recieve another phone call or text, the user is kicked off of the account and would have to re-sign in. A disadvantage of Skype is that if the software is not built in to your computer so an account holder would have to purchase that equipment in order to fully use the many options of Skype. When using skype we think it is an advantage to see the person, be able to message back and forth, and being able to call a landline or cell phone from your computer.
