Lab Assignment #15

E-Commerce Flower Shop

In this day and age, shopping is dynamic activity for people. There are online auctions, online-only stores, brick and mortar stores with online shopping and the declining, brick and mortar-only shop. As a brick and mortar-only shop there is a huge market of online sales that are lacking within this company. To expand this company’s profits, it is highly suggested that an e-commerce application is adopted. Below are 3 different companies that are I highly recommend.
Zen Cart

Zen Cart is an open source e-commerce shopping program. Built on a foundation of Ecommerce code, it provides an easy-to-setup and run online store. Zen-Cart 2.0, a free program has many great qualities, and is a small business dream, in my opinion. Zen-Cart allows you to easily manage your products that are being made available on-line. With Zen-Cart allows you to sort your products into categories, manage your stock levels, give attributes to the items that you have for sale. You can also write reviews, create specials, and allow items to be bought in bulk. Having items available online is great but the way it is presented is equally as important. People associate appearance with credibility. Zen-Cart provides attractive free templates, and even more attractive paid templates. Info about your company can simply be put into these templates and updated with a few clicks of the mouse. If you have any problems, there is a downfall. There is no help, but there is a forum that provides a pretty thorough support.

Magento

Magento is an e-commerce web application. This software provides online merchants with flexibility and control over the look, content and functionality of their e-commerce store. Magento's has a search engine optimization and catalog-management tools to give merchants the power to create a web-site that are tailored to their business needs. I think that this biggest advantages for Magneto is the option to control more than website. Zen Cart doesn't provide that option. Not really necessary for us because this is one company, but great if your looking to expand nationally, with different options in different regions. Magneto provides clean and professional web layouts that appear to be created by a 3rd party. They look complicated to set up, but there are pretty simple to create. You just follow the templates and fill them in. This is a more advanced option available for businesses with multiple ecommerce stores. Because of this feature, Magneto is a little slower.
As i said before this is best if your company has multiple companies you want to control.

osCommerce is the last eCommerce program that Ill recommend to you. This is an online store management system that offers a wide range of customizable features that can be done in a short amount of time. osCommerce provides a catalog frontend and an administrative tool backend which can be easily installed and configured over a web-based installation process. The software is free to download and takes up only 2.2MB of computer space. osCommerce has a lot to offer. osCommerece is capable of automatic web-based installation, unlimited number of products and categories, automatic set-up of eCommerce payment systems, support for dynamic images, printable invoices and packing lists, temporary and permanent shopping carts, and real time shipping quote integration with UPS, USPS, FedEx, etcetera.

To always ensure that your website is benefiting your business you want to apply a business analytics program to your website. ClickTale is a business analytic program that allows you to see tendencies of you consumers that visit your page. Clicktale gives recommendations on how to increase revenues and how the site can be improved. ClickTale provides different services for different prices. Prices range from $0 to about $800 dollars. This business analytics program is highly recommended to ensure a beneficial webos commerce program.
