Lab Assignment #14

1. Successfully downloaded to Ipod Touch and Iphone.

2. Functions of Skype include: searching names and adding new contacts; there is a directory; you can shop for subscriptions, skype credits, or accessories that comply with the Skype program; you can call any phone number including cell phones, landlines, and other skype users. You are able to create a profile with a picture of yourself and personal information. You can send files and contacts; when video chatting, you can choose to have the streaming video in a small screen setting, full screen setting, or as a separate window; you can share your screen. You Skype allows you to video chat with the person you are trying to call.

*When calling or messaging from a computer to a cell phone there is a time lag for the information or video. And on cell phones you are unable to video chat with the person you are calling.

*There is no real difference between desktop PCs and laptops except for the hardware. A lot of laptops now have a built in camera, some still do not, but many do. For the majority desktop PCs you have to purchase a camera.

*When using Skype on the Ipod touch, a user is limited because there is no camera/video applications and there is no built in microphone. A user must buy these external pieces in order to use Skype as a calling device. Messaging is the only main use of Skype on an Ipod touch without purchasing extra equipment.

3. Each person of our group has a skype account, has used skype at some point in time, and would use it in the future. From computer to computer the software seemed to work most efficiently. We most likely would not use Skype from our phones because we cannot see the person, there is a time lag in transferring information, and if the phone was to recieve another phone call or text, the user is kicked off of the account and would have to re-sign in. A disadvantage of Skype is that if the software is not built in to your computer so an account holder would have to purchase that equipment in order to fully use the many options of Skype. When using skype we think it is an advantage to see the person, be able to message back and forth, and being able to call a landline or cell phone from your computer.

Topic: Attractive Characters

Often times games create characters, both male and female flawlessly. I've never been one to be attracted to the characters they make, but some gamers are. This forum covers how male gamers are attracted to the characters of the games they play. This is an open forum with no moderator. Comments included in the blog are as followed : GGamer3449 talks about his attraction to an Assassins Creed character. SkeezixtheKat feels that Capt. Jack Sparrow is better, b/c Jonny Depp is more attractive and a real person.

Lab Assignment #12

The 3 different gaming platforms that I played were Playstation 3, my computer and my Palm Pre.

NBA 2K10 - Playstation

I played NBA 2k10, a basketball game created for everyone. This game was published by 2k Sports. 2k sports also makes NHL hockey, MLB baseball and NCAA Basketball. 2k Sports makes a point of breaking boundaries of online gaming. The options of online networking are limitless. Your are able to play online as one player representing a team against another person representing a team, or you have option of playing with up to ten different people representing one person on 2 different teams. 2k also makes a point to make the game as real as possible. The graphics, some time can easily be mistaken for real life games but this is because of the capabilities the Ps3 has.Controlling the players can be complex. The Ps3 priorities are gaming in high definition, where as other platforms the we are comparing against priorities' are not related to gaming.

Checkers - Palm Pre

There are many simple games on my Palm Pre phone. These games are all simple, time passing games made for everyone. The game that I played my phone was checkers, the timeless classic strategy game. My phones biggest priority is its multitasking capabilities, so the performance of all the games cant be extreme because the phone only has so many capabilities. The buttons to control everything are simple, usually being able to control everything with one finger. Keen Studios published this game for the Palm Pre, and in addition they've published Connect 4, Breakout, and BlockDrop, a spin-off replicate of Tetris. For a phone I am ok with the capability the Palm Pre has for gaming.

DJ Fest - Computer

With billions of flash games, online games are limitiless. I played a game from ultimatearcade.com called DJ Fest which was a command driven game. You follow what the screen tells you do. Computer games can be tedious because of the controls. Letters are involved, arrows too close to each other. Three fun to play but somewhat hard, for me! This game is for a more mature audience. Gamesfree.ca is the publisher of the game and if you go to their webiste, you'll see a host of games. The site also has Celebrity Bash, a first person boxing game, Transformer Prestige, and the Art Gallery Escape.

Super Monkey Ball is the mobile game that is played on my iPhone by Sega america, who have published many famous similar games such as Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic the Hedghog, and Sonic Riders. all racing puzzle games.

Max Payne is the game I played for PC, it also is a first -person- shooter by Rockstar games, Who have also made all the famous Grand Theft Auto games and other games similar sich as The warriors, and Man hunt.

For consol I played Turok on Xbox360. Turok is a first-person-shooter published by Propaganda Games, and Capstone. as of right now the only ohter game the publish is Pirates of the Caribean, Armada of the Damned. But is Similar to Capcom games such and all the Dino Crisis games hat were for playstation.

As far as gaming goes, I've played them for most of my life, however I didnt consider myself a gamer, and have never once owned or been a member of xbox live or any sort of online gaming system. So the option to network is available through any Internet provider on all platforms, I just choose not to use them. Since majority of the games I play are on console my experience playing games on PC is limited, but I have played two game, The Sims, and Max Payne. Both of these PC games are addicting especially the Sim's back when it was a new thing. At that point I also had no interest in online gaming so I'd just mess around with Sim's, or play the campaign on Max Payne. The problem with PC for me is the difficulty in controls, I am aware you can buy controllers for the computer but I never got into it enough to go spend money on that sort of thing. For A Mobile game i play Super Monkey Ball, a classic I've always loved, again no networking available for it that I know of of would look for. As far as functionality of the mobile device, it is defiantly more mobile and easy get around with, and since it is an iPhone, the movement of the characters is controlled by my tilting of the device which I found really cool.

Console - Sega Genesis [Sonic the Hedgehog]Sonic the Hedgehog is a platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Mega Drive/Genesis system. The game was released in 1991 in North America, Europe, and Japan.Mobile - Blackberry Brick BreakerWhat’s Brickbreaker? Well, it’s a very basic game. You’ve got a paddle at the bottom. You launch a ball up in the air to hit bricks. Some break in one hit, others need multiple hits. You keep the ball from falling past you by bouncing it back up to clear all the bricks. Some bricks cause power-ups to fall.PC - Bubble Trouble [Online]GAMING- Which platforms enable networking? I believe it all depends on whether your connected to the internet. Most of the consoles now a days have an internet connection such as the Wii/XBox/Playstation. But the console I used was old style - Sega Genesis. The mobile device game I played, Brick Breaker, lets you post your score on a "world scoreboard" which scores you with everyone who has submitted their scores. This also is another way to get scored on the PC/Internet game , Bubble Trouble, by letting you score with other around the world. (: - What functionalities does the mobile device have that the console and PC systems do not have? I really don't think the mobile device has many advantages other than the mobility the device has. So lets say for example, your on the bus going home, and your bored or just need s0mething to do - just stick your blackberry out and play a game or two while you wait for your destination. - How is each game title classified (which genre), and why?Sega Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog: Shook up the strategy & action-platform genre with his signature speed and rebellious attitude. ;)Brick Breaker: Strategy/ Puzzle [Brain Training - Mind Twister.]Bubble Trouble: Action/Strateg/ Puzzle - Who published each game title?Sonic the Hedgehog: was developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Mega Drive/Genesis system. Resident of Evil-X Box (Published by by S.D. Perry)
This console game was quite an experience. The first thing I noticed was that the graphics were very advanced, compared to the other game platforms. This made the violence very impacting. Also, the continuous movie clips got annoying. Sometimes it helped me to realize the tasks I needed to accomplish, but the sexist tension between the male characters and the female characters were disturbing. My partner was unable to see where she was going simply because the camera was only on the male character.

Mortal Combat II -Mobile phone game (Published by Acclaim)
This game was simple, yet enjoyable. I used the keypad from my phone as a controller, as opposed to the wireless controller on the X Box. There were no prelude movie clips, and the graphics were simple, yet the task in fighting the opposition was fun and competative.

TMNT Mouser Game-PC game (Published by daily free games.com)
The plot was simple in this game, have the Turtle knock out as many mice as he can in 5 minutes. My PC keyboard suddenly became my controller (arrow keys). I enjoyed the experience. The advanced graphics of an X Box game, also made the experience enjoyable.ComparisonNone of the games enabled networking. The mobile games allowed me to play the game, and still recieve calls, unlike the other platforms.

PC Game: Scrabble
Scrabble is a trademark of Hasbro but you have to install wordbiz in order to play it. This game is for everyone and it is a puzzle game. The player can connect with other people on the internet and play and chat with them. Other games that are made by Hasbro for the computer are Battleship, Connect Four, and Jenga. This game is different from the console game and the mobile game because it can connect to the internet and I can play with people that I don't know.

Console Game: MarioKart
WiiMarioKart is a racing game that is rated E for everyone. I played it on the wii. MarioKart is made by nintendo and other games that are made by nintendo are MarioKart 64, Wave Racing, and Mikey's Speedway USA. This game does enable networking if you decided to play with other people. However, you cannot talk to these people like you can if you play on the computer and you cannot connect to the internet like you can on the phone.

Mobile Game: Bejewled
Bejeweled is a puzzle mobile game that is published by Verizon Wireless and EA Mobile. Other EA games for a Verizon mobile phone are Tetris Blockout, Scrabble, and Trivial Pursuit. This game does not connect to the internet and can not be played with other people. Moreover you cannot talk to the other people playing like you can on a PC game.
